The Syracuse Information Security Evaluation (SISE) Project, in partnership with the CASE Center and the Systems Assurance Institute (SAI), conducted the CNY Secure Business Initiative (funded by NYSTAR) between April and August of 2004. The Secure Business Initiative fulfilled the following project objectives:

·       Assisted Central New York businesses with developing the capacity and scope of their information security capabilities

·       Helped to ensure the security and privacy of company, employee, and consumer records involved in online and offline transactions

·       Provided process feedback to assist companies with improving internal operations and developing process efficiencies while maintaining information security

·       Established contacts between the university and local area enterprises to enhance employment prospects and retention of professional workers in the CNY region

·       Served community goals by connecting between leaders of local businesses and Syracuse University students to encourage talent retention in the CNY region

·       Served research goals of faculty and students at Syracuse University that may result in longer term economic and societal benefits to CNY and other regions

Eligibility

Because the funded period of the project has ended, SISE is no longer able to provide no-cost services to CNY area companies. Thus, eligibility for the project is now limited to companies that are able to provide a stipend to our faculty-led student team of researchers. On the positive side, our team can now work with governmental and non-profit agencies in addition to for profit firms. In addition, we can offer free access to our SISE Rapid Response employee security survey for firms that have more than 50 employees.
